Living Archive – Archive Work as a Contemporary Artistic and Curatorial Practice
One of many ideas behind the "Living Archive – Archive Work as a Contemporary Artistic and Curatorial Practice" project is to illuminate the history of the institution by means of its collection of films. This month, filmmaker and curator Ute Aurand presents films by British artist Margaret Tait. Following a screening at the London Filmmakers Coop, Aurand organized a showcase of Tait's work at Arsenal in 1994. Two years later, she was able to acquire six film prints for the Arsenal distribution department as part of her "Sie zum Beispiel" (Her for Example) film series funded by the Berlin Senate's Female Artists program. In 1998, Arsenal added a print of Tait's last film GARDEN PIECES to the collection.
