This month’s Magical History Tour is dedicated to manifestos and pamphlets, and thus to the attempt to narrate the history of film partially from this perspective. In all the presented writings, the main issue is to fundamentally renew and liberate cinema from constraints and conventions, whether they are of an aesthetic, commercial or narrative nature. No less than a radically new cinema is demanded, one that reflects on political and social conditions and, in doing so, takes a firm personal and artistic stand. The manifestos frequently trigger a generation change. We will show films that were produced in the context or under the influence of the presented manifestos.
The texts of the individual manifestos are available at the box office.
