"No Age Restrictions – Films Not Just for Children". A Conference organized by the Deutsche Kinemathek

Films for children and young people span a whole wealth of different genres, subjects and aesthetic styles. What they all have in common is their target audience and their general neglect by the field of film studies. Festival programs and filmmaking from other countries, however, provide regular proof of just how varied and demanding films with children and for a young audience can be, quite aside from any educational considerations.

With presentations on Iranian film, the cinema of Hayao Miyazaki, children's film from the Czech Republic and a look at the work of the Generation section of the Berlinale, the conference seeks to recognize the cinematographic range of these films. Different approaches to communicating children's film will be discussed and practical and innovative examples of work with children in the cinema will be presented, including the French film educational program "Les enfants de cinéma" and other similar projects concerned with experimental films and documentaries. The conference will be further complemented by screenings of A PAS DE LOUP (On The Sly) and DA KANN NOCH VIEL PASSIEREN (THere's a Lot That Can Still Happen) as well as a preview of BAD O MEH (Wind and Fog).
