Vaginal Davis presents Rising Stars, Falling Stars
Hans Richter played a central role in European, and later American, avant-garde film, as well as in the art movements of the 20th century. Even before the First World War, he had already made contacts at the Expressionist magazine Sturm. He distributed Marinetti's "Futurist Manifesto" on Potsdamer Platz, was a great fan of Cubism and contributed to the magazine Die Aktion. He joined the Dada Movement in Zurich. From 1919 onwards, he worked with Viking Eggeling and created "scroll pictures", which set in motion abstract compositions of lines and surfaces (RHYTHMUS 21). Later films used real objects and actors: FILMSTUDIE, INFLATION or VORMITTAGSPUK (Ghosts before Breakfast), about objects rebelling against their use in everyday life.
With live music by John and Tim Blue. Followed by drinks in the Red Foyer. (May 28)
