Alain Resnais Retrospective

You ain't seen nothing yet! Alain Resnais' tongue-in-cheek title is a blatant understatement. In the course of six decades, the French filmmaker has shown his audience a great deal that they had never seen before. His irrepressible joy of experimentation, his unpredictable imagination, which doesn't give a hoot about conventions, and his innovative work with form that always pushes the boundaries of cinema to create new possibilities, have produced an incredibly multifaceted oeuvre that encompasses documentaries and comedies, and artificial, essayistic, literary, theatrical and musical films, as well as politically-committed works.

Arsenal is dedicating a full retrospective to Alain Resnais in September that comprises features and documentaries, as well as his short works, including many of his personal amateur films that are very little known. At the opening on 1. September, we are presenting the German premiere of his latest film VOUS N'AVEZ ENCORE RIEN VU (2012) that was in competition at this year's Cannes festival. We are much honored that François Thomas, a Paris-based Resnais specialist and the author of "L'atelier d'Alain Resnais", will be there to introduce the retrospective.
