In DIE VILLA (THE VILLA, D 2005, 5. & 26.2., in the presence of Calle Overweg) the director repairs to a children’s home in Berlin Karlshorst, the "Villa Kunterbunt". In an unusual documentary, which was produced for TV, Calle Overweg displays a great capacity for empathy and treats the children as his equals. He introduces elements of animated film to give the children their own voice. The animations talk about the children's lives before they came into the home, short musical sequences depict daily life, and sometimes the children grab hold of the camera themselves to become the narrators of their own stories.
