In February, the DEFA Foundation is continuing its monthly film series at Arsenal with eight short documentaries on "Berlin in documentary cinema – film portraits of a city". The first set features the Ernst Thälmann pioneer palace in EIN HAUS FÜR KINDER (R. Thielemann, 1980), impressions of KOLLWITZ-PLATZ BERLIN (G. Kuban, P. Petersen, G. Münch, I. Dochow, 1986) the particularities of the FRIEDRICHSTADTPALAST (A. Machalz, 1987), the feelings of visitors to a museum IM PERGAMON-MUSEUM (J. Böttcher, 1962) and Berlin nightlife in ...ABENDS AN DER SPREE (A. Machalz, 1962). In the second part of the evening, PALAST DER REPUBLIK – HAUS DES VOLKES (H. Winter, 1976), sheds light upon the building of the Palace of the Republic and WER FÜRCHTET SICH VORM SCHWARZEN MANN (H. Misselwitz, 1989) and FEUERLAND (V. Koepp, 1987) focus on coal-bearers and iron-founders.
