KEYwording – Notes on Enculturation of Words and Word Practice within the Image Archive (Madhusree Dutta, Ines Schaber)

"KEYwording" examines the meaning of tagging and annotation for the functioning of an archive. Arsenal gave up on the convention of searching for keywords because "standardized categories did not cover many of the filmic forms represented in the Archive." Inspired by this statement, the project tries to create a cross-cultural dialogue about the use of words in theory, practice, community and action in the context of contemporary cultural production. A list of keywords which address the varieties of experience in different cultural realities form the basis for seven books created by participants from Berlin and Bombay."
