The producer, director, screenwriter, actor, cinephile and international film preservationist Martin Scorsese is regarded as one of the most important US filmmakers of his generation. Although he has always worked on the fringes of the Hollywood studio system, he also ranks among the world’s most commercially successful directors. His oeuvre encompasses nearly fifty films, including thirty feature-length productions straddling a wide variety of genres: gangster movies, musicals, thrillers, documentaries, melodramas, and children's films.
Our comprehensive retrospective of Scorsese's work continues into the new year with the screening of fourteen of his most outstanding films. On January 10, the world's first exhibition on Martin Scorsese, mounted by the Deutsche Kinomathek, will open at the Film Museum. The curators of the exhibition will accompany the retrospective by giving introductions to selected films.
