To Begin with the Archive – Redux (Harun Farocki, Wendelien van Oldenborgh)

A variation of Avi Mograbi's Spandau exercise took place to kick off this year's Forum Expanded program. Wendelien van Oldenborgh and Harun Farocki didn't use numbers but words from books and texts specially chosen by the audience to make their film selection. Extracts were viewed immediately, including at an editing table in the cinema. We are showing the films in their entirety to open our anniversary month: LA VERIFICA INCERTA (Italy 1965) and ONLY THE BEGINNING (USA 1971, 2.6.), SOLL SEIN. JIDDISCHE KULTUR IM JÜDISCHEN STAAT (FRG 1984–90, 3.6.), LA REGION CENTRALE (Canada 1971, 5.6.), YEK ETTEFAGHE SADEH (Iran 1973, 5.6.), NORMALSATZ (FRG 1981, 6.6.), THE MAN WHO COULDN'T FEEL AND OTHER TALES (GB 1996, 6.6.).
