In support of the Magical History Tour we are screening the CinemaScope film 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (Richard Fleischer, USA 1954, 1. & 8.3.). This spectacular sci-fi film based on Jules Verne's work is about a sea monster that turns out to be a submarine. In MARY POPPINS (Robert Stevenson, USA 1964, 15. & 22.3.), Michael and Jane scare off one nanny after the next until Mary Poppins flies into the house. This musical combines live-action and animation to enable leaps into another world. In conjunction with the Deutsche Kinemathek's children's exhibition "… und Action!", we are also showing the short film GEWINNERthat was made as part of the "Children make shorts" project. It will be followed by DIE DICKE TILLA (Fat Little Tilla, Werner Bergmann, GDR 1982, 29.3.), a story about two girls who do not like each other at first, but then become friends. Children that have obtained the "film director" identity card in the "… und Action!" exhibition receive free entry to the screening. A Deutsche Kinemathek event.
