The Brazilian filmmaker Clarissa Campolina (*1979) is currently the guest of the DAAD's Berlin Artists' Program. The carefully composed imagery of her films create a dreamlike atmosphere without, however, forfeiting a sense of reality. On top of four short works dating from 2006 to 2013, we will show Campolina's feature film debut GIRIMUNHO (Swirl, 2010), which was made with Helvécio Marins Jr. and has won many awards. After the husband's death, the 81-year-old Bastú is visited by mysterious visions that she interprets as signs from her dead husband. She decides to get rid of his belongings. Her granddaughter goes off to the city to study. Made with amateur actors in a small village in Sertão, GIRIMUNHO is an ethnographic study of captivating beauty - infused with myths, song and philosophical worldly wisdom. (bik) (4.6.)
