The International Women's Day program features shorts from the 1950s to the 1980s that are critical, subtle and enjoyable examinations of the lives of women. Women take it easy in booming West Germany in KLEINE REISE DURCH DIE ZEIT(Wolfgang Kiepenheuer, FRG 1953) or make themselves more attractive in a socialist realistic way in DIE VERWANDLUNG DER HELGA S. (Wolfgang Bartsch, GDR 1957). In the 1960s, illusionless daily perspectives burst the affirmative image of the brave new world of women and provide filmic keywords for the New German women's movement.
