For this edition of its monthly film series, the DEFA Foundation is showing 25 animated films made at the DEFA Animation Studios to coincide with the 60th anniversary of its foundation. The program provides a glimpse of the studio's far-ranging animation techniques, that run the gamut from stop-motion animation via silhouettes to cartoons. The technical developments that animated film went through during the period of the DEFA Animation Studio's existence also come across in the process. For its 60th anniversary, the DEFA Foundation has digitized 60 DEFA animated films this year. The film evening begins with a selection of films from the studio's early years made by such renowned directors as Klaus Georgi, Kurt Weiler and Lothar Barke, with Klaus-Dieter Felsmann giving a short introduction to the program.
