Book presentation: Localization. Documentary between cinema and art
The art world has proclaimed a documentary turn. A recently published book uses this to question the conditions and problems of exhibiting films, as well as documentary procedures such as working with found footage and re-enactment that are used in art without being based there. Films that make the boundaries between art and cinema seem obsolete because they are shown and commented upon here and there. The publishers Eva Hohenberger and Katrin Mundt present Gillian Wearing's film SELF MADE (GB 2010), which accompanies amateur actors attending a Method Acting workshop in which they use their own experiences to explore fictional versions of themselves. A cross between reality TV and social experiment, it examines the border areas between self-reflection and self-exposure. (eh/km) In cooperation with dfi/Verlag Vorwerk 8. (21.3.)
