Between Agitation and Counter-Information – Films of the New Social Movements of the 80s. From the debate about targeted shootings on the part of the police when freeing hostages to the controversy surrounding the census, from Reagan's visit to Berlin in 1982, which shut down half the city, to the first public pledge to the Bundeswehr and the arrival of video camera surveillance – the films that emerged from the New Social Movements accompanied all the important social developments of the 80s. Film such as POLIZEIGESETZ, VOLKSZÄHLUNG 1983 or DIE DATENREISENDEN looked for new aesthetic forms in order to disseminate their issues to generate public appeal. Films like FEIERABEND or DAS EISKALTE AUGE reflected new visual works and thus challenged standard ways of reading. (ft) Introduction: Fabian Tietke (11.7.)
