Recent cinema meets "old" DEFA films - Hans-Christian Schmid presents: On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of DEFA in May 2016, the Foundation is inviting young directors to present a DEFA film at Arsenal that particularly impressed and inspired them. DR. MED. SOMMER II (Lothar Warneke, GDR 1970) accompanies a young doctor in his first post. As he tries to attain his professional ideals, he faces various problems. It was the first time that the director had put into practice his concept of the "documentary feature film". "Arbeitswelten" (Worlds of work): Three short documentaries made between 1964 and 1975 give an insight into how workers at an oil refinery spend their evenings (FEIERABEND), into the working day of a Polish contract worker (EWA –EIN MÄDCHEN AUS WITUNIA) and into the experiences, expectations and disappointments of young workers at a textile factory (MÄDCHEN IN WITTSTOCK).
