Some may recall the television discussion that followed the first broadcast of Rosa von Praunheim’s "Nicht der Homosexuelle ist pervers…" . Yet that is just one connection between sex researcher Dannecker and cinema. In the 90s, the Kinothek Asta Nielsen organized film seminars with him at the Goethe-Universität and film series at cinemas in Frankfurt. To coincide with an exhibition at the Schwules Museum, the Frankfurt Kultur und Homosexualität e.V. initiative remembers the dark(room) side of the sex researcher and gay movement activist. A gallop through the classics of gay and lesbian cinema, from Germaine Dulac’s THÈMES ET VARIATIONS(France 1929) via Jean Genet’s UN CHANT D'AMOUR (France1950) all the way to Matthias Müller's STERNENSCHAUER (Germany 1994). Queer cinema icons Jack Smith and Theo Hernandez are also represented by SONG FOR RENT (USA 1969) and 14, BINA GARDEN (France 1968) respectively, together with further surprises!
