In the first year of the dffb's existence (1966/7), a guest lecture by Jean-Marie Straub made a deep impression on students that was tangible in their films. In 1983, Harun Farocki made a short documentary called JEAN-MARIE STRAUB UND DANIÈLE HUILLET BEI DER ARBEIT AN EINEM FILM NACH FRANK KAFKAS ROMANFRAGMENT „AMERIKA“(Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet at Work on a film based on Franz Kafka's "Amerika") about the rehearsals and shoots for Straub's film "Klassenverhältnisse" (Class Relations) in which he had acted. In 1991, they opened up the rehearsals for their production of Antigone at the Schaubühne as part of a directing course; and they found their "Antigone" in the dffb student Astrid Ofner. The dffb student Stephan Settele, who worked as an assistant director, videoed the experience: PLAY ANTIGONE (1992).
