On June 2, 1967, student Benno Ohnesorg was shot dead by a police officer at a demonstration against the Persian Shah’s visit. The incident politicized and radicalized many young people. “1968” is seen as a synonym for this movement, which was railed against the unbroken Nazi continuities in politics and economics, against the aggressive military policy of the USA, and against the media as the allies of repression. BERLIN, 2. JUNI 67 (Thomas Giefer, Rüdiger Minow, West Germany 1967) is a unique document of the events and the reaction to Ohnesorg’s murder. IHRE ZEITUNGEN (Harun Farocki, West Germany 1968) reflects an attempt to use film as a means of informing and agitating.
