Avant-garde film from 1957: MAYA. EIN FILM VOM DEUTSCHEN FILM-NACHWUCHS was advertised as a “bold, modern film made by Germany’s new generation”. The documentary-feature film depicts the experiences of an ambitious young filmmaker and his girlfriend Maya, a student in acting school, in the Munich film world. In the frame story, Werner Finck comments their amorous relations, with ingenious wit and puns. Six interwoven shorts, made by Franz Schömbs, Haro Senft and Herbert Vesely among others, provide evidence of the creative ideas of a young generation of German filmmakers.
