In November 1968, 18 students were expelled from the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie (DFFB) following intense conflicts between the student body and the direction – an unparalleled measure that can equally be seen as symptomatic of the political radicalization of the time. As different as the subsequent career paths of those expelled ended up being, they were still united by the same political concerns, which have subsequently left their mark on how the school sees itself. Films made by several of those expelled, including EIN WESTERN FÜR DEN SDS by Günter Peter Straschek, believed lost until recently, and discussions with the people involved back then recall and reflect on the events. In the second part of the evening, REQUIEM FÜR EINE FIRMA will be shown, which was made in 1969 as a sort of cinematic evaluation of the crisis at the DFFB. (ah) (26.11.)
