After working on a number of films as an editor and screenwriter, the former critic Mateusz Romaszkan turned his hand to directing in 2017. We present his debut TURYŚCI,as well as Wojciech Staroń’s ARGENTYŃSKA LEKCJA (2011). TURYŚCI (Tourists, Mateusz Romaszkan, Marta Wójtowicz-Wcisło, PL 2017, 5.9.) Dances, music, traditional performances, landscapes, but also poverty and desolate conditions - in this succinctly edited found-footage work, scenes of travelers from all over the world and an impressive soundtrack join together to become a study of the “exotic”, or rather its construction, the (im)possibility of human bonding and the longings and desires of amateur filmmakers. ARGENTYŃSKA LEKCJA(Argentinian Lesson, Wojciech Staroń, PL 2011, 6.9.) Explorations of a young boy after his family moves to Argentina, which blurs the boundaries between documentary and feature film. (mg)
