Werner Schroeter’s DIE GENERALPROBE (FRG/F 1980) celebrates the world of theater and performance in a poetical manner and also pays tribute to the important Festival mondial du théâtre de Nancy in France. The film concentrates on the dancers, performers and choreographers in whose themes - love, passion and death - Schroeter saw his own work reflected. The screening will mark the publication of a new collection of essays edited by Roy Grundmann (Boston University). “Werner Schroeter” (Vienna: FilmmuseumSynemaPublikationen, 2018) retraces Schroeter’s career as a filmmaker and includes an extensive up-to-date filmography. After the screening, there will be a discussion between Grundmann and the film studies professor Gertrud Koch (FU Berlin), who contributed one essay to the book. (rg) (6.6., 8pm)
