Screenwriter, film and theatre director Olga Chajdas presents two well-regarded Polish film debuts of the last years: her own and that of her directorial colleague Kasia Adamik.
NINA (Olga Chajdas, Poland 2018, 18.11., with guest Olga Chajdas) While looking for a surrogate mother for the child they want to have, Nina and her husband meet the much younger Magda, who lives a comparatively unsettled life between a job at the airport, women’s football clubs, and parties. As Magda and Nina get closer, the power and value relations within the complicated trio gradually shift. Without falling into stereotype, Chajdas draws the impressive portrait of an emancipation.
BOISKO BEZDOMNYCH (The Offsiders, Kasia Adamik, Poland 2008, 19.11., with an introduction by Olga Chajdas) A injury brings Jacek’s career as a football star to an abrupt end. After his marriage breaks down as a result, Jacek ends up on the street, where football then reappears in his life. (mg) An event with the Polnisches Institut, Berlin.
