The oldest German actor to still be active turned 99 on 17th February. Herbert Köfer has enjoyed a life-long career in theater, film and television, playing over 300 roles in 70 years. To celebrate, the DEFA Foundation gave him carte blanche. In DENK BLOSS NICHT, ICH HEULE (Just Don't Think I'll Cry, Frank Vogel, 1965) he plays a headmaster who has to make a decision about whether a dropout should return to school. The film, which imparted a realistic but critical picture of East German youth, was banned by the authorities, only premiering in 1990.
Curt Bois’ color film EIN POLTERABEND (1955) is a farce about the Berlin humorist Adolf Glasbrenner (1810–1876), aka Brennglas. Köfer played the lisping Captain von Blötzow, as he had done in the stage version directed by Curt Bois at the Deutsches Theater in 1952. (pz) Guest: Herbert Köfer (2.3.)
