The filmmaker dives into her family’s past: taking the drug addiction and mental illness of her eldest brother Arne as a starting point and via conversations with her siblings and depressive mother, the seemingly perfect world of childhood in the north German provinces in the 70s loses its shine. In this hugely personal documentary, private lives emerge as being symptomatic of German society in the 70s, which emerges from the shadow of the National Socialist past and brings forth new utopias of feeling helpless and overwhelmed within the family. AUF DEMSELBEN PLANETEN (Katrin Eißing, Germany 2002) has been digitally restored by the Deutsche Kinemathek and is being shown in this new version for the first time to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Ö-Filmproduktion, with the screening attended by the director and producer Katrin Schlösser.
