In the mid-60s, George Maciunas, founder of the Fluxus movement, started putting together the Fluxfilm Anthology, a collection of experimental films by Fluxus artists, many of them very short, that were shown at events and happenings and to this day form the canon of the Fluxus film work. 32 films from this collection, which was expanded over time, can be found in the Arsenal film archive.
To coincide with the Tomas Schmit retrospective at the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) and the exhibition at the Kupferstichkabinett – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin on the early work of artist, author, and illustrator Tomas Schmit, we are showing a selection of the Anthology, placing a special focus on works on the body and movement. Taking this as a starting point, the program also undertakes digressions through the Arsenal film archive, explores those who accompanied the Fluxus project and sets off in search of connections, motifs, and references in the works of the collection.
