VASILISSA ANTIGONI (Queen Antigone, Telémachos Alexiou, GR/G 2014): A young woman lives with her ill father and teenage brother in a small Greek city by the sea. She has been working for months without pay in a small boutique and can neither afford medical care for her father nor look after her brother. When she searches this latter's schoolbag for cigarettes, she finds a copy of Sophocles' "Antigone" and starts to read, identifying increasingly with its heroine. Helplessly and in a self-destructive way, she falls victim to her own fate and follows the path of her tragic decline into the final catharsis, accompanied by a chorus of three men. (ta/nm)(2.6.)
