Squadron leader Veer Pratap Singh is a rescue pilot with the Indian air force who risks his own life to save the lives of others. One day, on duty, he comes across the stranded Zaara, a girl from Pakistan. The carefree, sprightly girl has come to India to fulfill her surrogate mother's dying wish. She is involved in a bus accident which leaves her stranded in a foreign land. Veer saves her life, and his life is never the same again. Twenty-two years later, Saamiya Siddiqui, a Pakistani lawyer on her first case, finds herself face-to-face with an ageing Veer Pratap Singh. He has languished in a Pakistani jail cell for twenty-two years and has not spoken to anyone else all these years – and no one knows why. Her mission is to discover the truth about Veer and see to it that justice is served. And thus starts her journey to unveil the truth. The story of Veer and his life.
"India's most successful director Chopra's twenty-first feature is a ground-breaking Indo-Pak musical romance on an epic scale. Will Indian Hindu Veer and Pakistani Muslim Zaara's love be able to overcome cross-cultural emotional and physical borders? Yash Raj's balanced treatment of the contentious subject-matter transcends its familiar 'Romeo and Juliet' style plot through a compelling reworking of the 'formula', reflecting strong progressive political and social messages achieved via impressive performances from his 'A'-list charismatic stars, poetic Urdu Punjabi and Hindi dialogue and melodious songs which blend seamlessly into the narrative... Do not be put off by its length, go see and get swept away in this festal melange of colour, sights and sounds." Anil Sineman
