Yippie Yi Yo Kayah was filmed on location in Pioneertown, a decrepit Californian desert artefact from Hollywood's cowboy golden era of Roy Rogers and the Cisco Kid. The film explores the melancholy and amateurism of a group of Old West re-enactors in which Pickering invites them to perform a repeated shootout. The work observes their back-stage preparations and wooly rehearsals prior to enacting their instructed script.
