Shell is inspired by E 1027, a villa on the Côte d’Azur. Architect and designer Eileen Gray built the house for her lover Jean Badovici in 1929, but she eventually walked away from her labor of love. It then became known as Le Corbusier's house, while Gray languished in obscurity. The video was shot on location by Phillips and Robert Lee, and captures the house before it underwent the renovation that restored Le Corbusier's controversial murals. Together with Knock, Knock (giclee prints) and Touché (magnetized books), Shell is part of Phillip's work "History appears twice, the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce".
