On the one hand a cage is a real thing, on the other hand you can understand it as a metaphor for various existential conditions. The film Cage is trying to express and create those two meanings.
The basic material of the film are two 35mm b&w shots, which Kels filmed at the rhinoceros cage in the zoo in Frankfurt a.M. . With the help of a complex metric montage, which is based on 3360 cuts, the naturalism of the representational images and movements is radically deconstructed.
35mm, b&w, silent, 14 minutes
Karl Kels was born in 1960 in Düsseldorf. He lives in Berlin and works as a freelance artist in the fields of film, photography and installation.<
