The Electric Paradise is an aleatoric film in six parts. It’s an extensive film cosmos on the topic of limited space, in which hallucinated and remembered urban landscapes appear, thought plays, traumata, textual landscapes whiz by, self-encounters in dreams, wormholes leading to other times and realities; in which the first-person narrator is leading a ghostlike existence in his hideaway, the idea of a hollow earth, evil water, strange matter, Peter Hein recounting Plato‘s cave analogy, a cinematic self-portrait, all of the above in palimpsest-like repainted images, oscillating between concrete and abstract vision…
“Around 1986 I started shooting on Super 8 and VHS. Since then, a constantly growing archive of documentary footage has developed, a visual notebook, from which I can distill stories, or just impressions or memories. It’s not about filmmaking, basically, but rather about working in an archive of time.
The ‘film of life’ is about a constant struggle against the static, the relentless unchangeability of a filmprint. A classic ‘work-in-progress’ attitude, now and then producing a film, while the actual, daily work remains invisible, because it subjects the material to constant changes, in an attempt to keep the FILM alive.”

The film’s six parts Night Now, Nacht/Träume, Halluzinationen/Berlin/Album, Winterfest/Gartenfilm, Gedanken/Landschaften and Die Welt Höhle will be screened in an arbitrary order to be determined before the screening in front of the audience.
