The short film I DON’T WANT TO BE JUST A MEMORY celebrates all those who have passed away or disappeared by interweaving collective and personal memories about them, creating a sense of communal appreciation towards the past as well as the present. Especially for those who are still living, discussions about the community’s role in mental health support become crucial. It also proposes the non-European idea of afterlife and ancestry: that ancestors could also work like alternative kinship—having no biological link yet having lived the lives many can learn from—which might pave the way towards a better model of queer nightlife community.
