Code of Conduct
Arsenal - Institute for Film and Video Art is dedicated to communicating international film culture in lively fashion. The Berlin-based institution, which works as a cinema, festival, distributor and archive regionally, nationally and internationally, has created a communication network and space for transnational film cultural dialogues for artists, curators, audiences and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures and with different identities and experiences. As a host, programmer and supporter, Arsenal stands for pluralism of opinion and artistic freedom.
The Arsenal has a responsibility towards its community. We want to create a safe space free from discrimination and intolerance and ask everyone to treat each other with respect and show consideration for the boundaries of others. As a public institution, the Arsenal is obliged to comply with the German constitution and the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). Taking these as its basis, this code of conduct defines the rules of social interaction within all areas of Arsenal.
To strengthen diversity and solidarity in the Arsenal community – both now and for future generations – respectful dialogue is important to us, even when different points of view are being represented. The use of derogatory language, any form of harassment, exclusion, racism, colorism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, fascism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, queerphobia and classism will not be tolerated.
In view of the harrowing violence in the Middle East, we reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and racism, including anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim racism. Incitement to hatred or violence, bullying or the stigmatization of individuals or groups of people will not be tolerated.
To ensure a respectful environment in our spaces, we are continuously learning and broadening our perspectives. We want the Arsenal community to be characterized by inclusion and respect and we want to create a welcoming and mindful atmosphere.
If you notice or experience an unpleasant situation at an Arsenal event, please contact our box office team. Your feedback is always welcome.
Raising awareness is a process: we don't always do everything right, but we want to ensure the safety of our audience and employees at all events.
