In doing so, the program seeks to interrogate the predominance of the visual in discussions of cinematic media, a dominance that significantly influences engagements with film heritage. What geopolitical narratives emerge when visual elements are relegated to the background? And how might these narratives contribute to a new interpretation of cinema and the world from a contemporary point of view?

Through a variety of formats, the festival explores transnational and decolonial methodologies in the curation of film archives. A film series will present new restorations and films exploring these themes, partly accompanied by music and live translation. Installations in the migas listening bar and a dedicated reading room will deepen discussions on power dynamics and discursive authority within cinema. A panel symposium and a series of project presentations at silent green and SINEMA TRANSTOPIA will provide space for interdisciplinary dialogue.

The third edition of the Archival Assembly festival breaks with its biennial schedule and will take place in September due to the impending relocation of the Arsenal.

Archival Assembly #3 is organised by Arsenal - Institute for Film and Video Art in cooperation with Goethe University Frankfurt and the Master Program in Film Culture as well as the Goethe-Institut and silent green, SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA, and migas, a listening bar. Archival Assembly #3 is funded by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes.
