In a programme with AUF DEN ZWEITEN BLICK.
An innocuous errand escalates into a conflict that reveals the latent anger and phobias simmering under the surface of respectable West-German neighbourhoods. On their walk home from the supermarket, Frank, a juvenile, chivalrous twenty-something and Denise, his prudent, white-passing girlfriend, get caught up in an absurd episode of road-rage with a contemptuous elderly driver. The haughty pensioner has a bone to pick. Frank answers his own rhetorical questions about whether he owns the street with the sarcastic response that he has just bought it at Edeka (the fact that this German supermarket chain was founded in 1898 to exploit colonial trade from West Africa and Indonesia only adds irony to the scene). Something about the surly, Goethe-citing senior gets under the skin of the young couple, but the unexpected climax reveals that Denise is far more traumatised than her jovial partner. Written, directed and edited by Pilavci, this non-linear short film, made during her studies at the Deutschen Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB), is a gripping exploration of the hostility within microaggressions.
