Der schüchterne Polizist, der von Nachbarn gerufen wird, um eine häusliche Streiterei zu schlichten, verliebt sich in eine zwanzig Jahre ältere Frau. Das Objekt seiner Begierde wechselt aber ständig seine Partner und läuft vor der Liebe davon, die an der Haustür wartet. Ein Schauspieler verkauft ziemlich ungeschickt Töpfe in geschmacklosen Werbespots drittklassiger Fernsehsender. Er ist das Idol eines 16-jährigen Mädchens, einer treuen Zuschauerin des Teleshopping-Kanals. Doch weil er sich mehr für eine Prostituierte interessiert, treibt er das Mädchen in die Verzweiflung. Die Regisseurinnen: “Diese Welt dient unserem Film nur als Hintergrund, um Menschen zu zeigen, die am Ende sind, die Liebe suchen und Sex in einem heruntergekommenen kleinen Fiat finden. Menschen, die aneinander vorbeigehen und weder ein geistiges noch ein emotionales Leben kennen. Der Film handelt vom Mangel an Liebe und der verzweifelten Suche nach ihr. Der Zuschauer wird Zeuge davon, wie sich Menschen um Millimeter verfehlen und im Schatten ihrer selbst weiterleben. Ein Drama mit komödiantischen Elementen, fest verwurzelt im Polen von heute.”

The film weaves several sub-plots together. A shy policeman, whose neighbours ask him to arbitrate in a domestic dispute, falls in love with a woman 20 years his senior. The object of his affection constantly changes partners and runs away from the love that waits by her door. The second sub-plot tells of an actor who rather ineptly sells pots in tasteless commercials on third-rate TV stations. He is idolised by a 16-year-old girl who devoutly watches the home shopping channel. But she is driven to despair because the actor is more interested in a prostitute he meets in a brothel. The directors: ”The film arose out of the desire to describe or at least outline the reality of life in Poland today, a reality in which young actors on third-rate television stations offer twenty artificial fingernails (one free!) as a bonus for buying great kitchen knives. Meanwhile, a man advises his unemployed friends, ‘Having a sex life is a novelty in Poland’. This world acts as merely a backdrop in our film so that we can show people at their wits’ end, who search for love and find sex in a run-down little Fiat, people who pass one another by, who are outside of life, not necessarily social life, but certainly intellectual and emotional life. The film is about a lack of love and the desperate search for it. Just a little would suffice to make the protagonists happy. The viewer witnesses how people miss each other by a matter of millimetres and live on as the shadow of themselves. Out of fear? Because of their inattentiveness? Their loneliness and exclusion reach out to the viewer. A drama with theatrical elements firmly rooted in present-day Poland.”
