Drei Freunde treffen sich bei einer Beerdigung, zu der ein ehemaliger Klassenkamerad sie gebeten hat. Da der Tag ohnehin gelaufen ist, machen sie einen Spaziergang durch ihre Heimatstadt und besuchen alte Bekannte. Jede Begegnung öffnet eine neue Seite im Buch der Vergangenheit, die sie für immer vergessen glaubten. Aber auch die Wirklichkeit der Gegenwart ist nicht gerade angenehm für sie. Sie erleben sie als eine Reihe von Abenteuern während dieses teils belustigenden, teils beängstigenden Tagesausflugs. Alexej Muradow: “All the Truth About Schelps erzählt von den heute Vierzigjährigen, die durch die 'Reformmühle' der Perestrojka gegangen sind, die alle Lebensbereiche erfasste: die Wirtschaft, die Politik, das Soziale, die Moral, die Ästhetik. Sie waren junge Erwachsene, als diese für sie völlig unerwartete Umbruchsituation eintrat und hatten damals keine Zeit, ihren Platz in diesem neuen Leben zu finden. Auch ich gehöre zu diesen Vierzigjährigen, die oft die 'verlorene Generation' genannt werden. Ich habe für meinen Film den Untertitel 'eine böse Komödie' gewählt, was nicht als Genrebezeichnung gemeint ist, sondern meine Einschätzung der Thematik zum Ausdruck bringt. Alles, was die Figuren erleben, ist einfach lächerlich und komisch. Und darüber bin ich als Autor sehr verärgert.”

All the Truth About Schelps Three close friends meet when their former schoolmate asks them to attend a funeral. As the day is spoilt anyway, they walk around in their native city, visiting old friends. Each meeting opens another page from the past, which they really had tried to forget. The reality of the present, the world that surrounds them, is not really pleasant. The three friends, all belonging to the generation of 40-year-old, who have lived through the age of perestroika, end up in a series of adventures; they get drunk, and eventually return home after their partly funny and partly scary 'day out.' Alexei Muradov: ”All the Truth About Shchelps is about the forty-somethings of today who were 'subjected' to the perestroika reforms, which affected every aspect of their lives: the economy, politics, the social fabric, morality and aesthetics. The members of this generation had just become adults when this completely unexpected situation was thrust upon them. Faced by all this change, young people simply didn’t have the time to find their proper place in the new world. Nevertheless, each of their stories is unique and should not be valued either positively or negatively. I too am one of these forty-somethings, who are often referred to as members of 'the lost generation'. I do not agree with this label. Everyone has their time, their freedom or lack of freedom, their life. And everyone has to grasp and understand all this for themselves. I've chosen the tagline 'A wicked comedy' for the film not to define its genre, but to describe my personal attitude of the theme of the film. Everything that the characters experience is simply ridiculous and comic. As a writer, that makes me very angry.”
