Ein generation movie grundsätzlich nicht für über Dreißigjährige. Der HipHopper Yan Eq nimmt den Mund ganz schön voll. Um eine Affäre mit der Schwester seines besten Freundes zu vertuschen, lässt er sich dazu breitschlagen, innerhalb von 24 Stunden die größte Party der Stadt zu organisieren. Gemeinsam mit Jamie muss er jetzt nicht nur die gesamte Ausrüstung 'zusammenleihen', sondern auch Diebstahl und Abzocke überstehen. Sera, der sein Geld rappend in der U-Bahn verdient, kämpft um seine Wohnung, die sein Marihuana-Dealer verpfändet hat. Vern, selbsternannter B-Boy Manager und Mann ohne Worthirnschranke, redet sich das Leben breit auf der Suche nach dem ultimativen Booking, das ihn ganz nach oben bringt. Tarek träumt davon, ganz Berlin zu einer großen Graffiti-Skulptur zu machen. Als Spross chinesischer Einwanderer geht er die Sache philosophisch an, denn: Wer das Dach besitzt, dem gehört das Haus. Sässion, ebenfalls Rapper aus Berufung, hat sich mit den falschen Leuten eingelassen, muss vor Geldeintreibern fliehen und gleichzeitig verhindern, dass seine Freundin Yesim von ihrem Bruder gefunden und in die Türkei verschleppt wird. Das Liebespaar scheint unzertrennlich, bis sich eine Skinhead-Horde einmischt. Zum Showdown erscheinen in letzter Sekunde die 5 Amoks – die wahrscheinlich besten Breakdancer der Welt. Die Fäden der Episoden verwandeln sich innerhalb einer Nacht und eines Tages in eine pulsierende Komposition aus fabelhaften Laiendarstellern und waghalsigem Filmemachen.

Hip-hopper Yan Eq has a pretty big mouth. In an attempt to cover up an affair with his best friend's sister, he lets himself get talked into organising the city's biggest party in just 24 hours. Together with Jamie, he must now not only borrow all the equipment, but somehow cope with all the con-men and thieves. Sera, who makes a living rapping on the underground, is fighting to keep his flat, which his marijuana dealer has pawned. Vern, the selfproclaimed B-Boy Manager, can't keep his mouth shut. He talks his life away looking for the ultimate booking that will take him to the very top. Tarek dreams of turning all of Berlin into an enormous graffiti sculpture. As the child of Chinese immigrants, he takes a philosophical approach. After all, he who owns the roof, owns the house. Sässion ('session') is another born rapper. He has got in with the wrong crowd and tries simultaneously to flee the debt-collectors and prevent his girlfriend Yesim being found by her brother and dragged off to Turkey. The lovers appear inseparable – until a bunch of skinheads turns up. In the final showdown, the situation is saved by the last-minute appearance of the 5 Amoks, perhaps the world's greatest breakdancers. In one night and the following day, the different strands of this story blend into a pulsating composition involving fabulous amateur actors and daredevil filmmakers. Till Hastreiter: ”I always wanted to make a 'generation movie', that is, a film about young people with lots of music in it. Hip-hop was the latest craze for my generation. So I decided to make a film about things associated with youth: young love, youth problems, the dreams of youth, and youth music. But I also wanted to make a film that young people could identify with, a film that was authentic and not dreamt up by old men.”

Till Hastreiter, geb. 1970 in Konstanz. Regie- und Kamera-Studium an den Filmhochschulen in Prag und Budapest. Seither als Regisseur, Kameramann, Cutter, Drehbuchautor und Produzent tätig. Kurzfilme seit 1996. Status Yo! ist sein Spielfilm-Debüt.
