| Der Film begleitet das Berlin dieser Tage eine kurze Strecke auf seinem Weg in die Metropole. Er zeigt eine Stadt im Umbruch - Berlin als 'work in progress' -, verweilt bei neuer und alter Architektur, ihren Bewohnern, Benutzern und Planern. Im Vodergrund stehen die Bau- und Planungsaktivitäten an zentralen Plätzen des Stadtbildes: Potsdamer Platz, Spreebogen, Friedrichstadt, Spreeinsel, Alexanderplatz. Sein besonderes Anliegen ist es, den Prozeß des derzeitigen Wandels in Architektur- und Stadtlandschaft zu dokumentieren. Er beobachtet das Geschehen mit flanierender Kamera und spürt so historischen Korrespondenzen und ästhetischen Assoziationen nach. Die Kamera, die das Auge des Erzählers darstellt, führt so durch die Kulissen einer Stadt wie durch die Bilder einer Ausstellung. | This film takes a look at Berlin's development towards becoming a metropolis. It reveals a city in transition, a work-in-progress; it pauses to examine all kinds of architecture, bot old and new and to meet the city's inhabitants, users and planners. At the film's centre, however, is the building and planning currently taking place at the city's central axes: Potsdamer Platz, the Spreebogen, Friedrichstadt, Spreeinsel and Alexanderplatz. The camera, representing the eye of the narrator, leads the viewer through the various architectural sets of Berlin as if guiding us among the pictures of an exhibition. |
