| Renate Kern erschien bereits mit 19 Jahren als neuer Stern am Schlagerhimmel. Als ihr Erfolg nachließ, wollte sie sich verändern und Chansons wie die Piaf singen. Das ließen jedoch ihre Plattenfirmen und Fans nicht zu. Es wurde still um sie, bis sie heimlich erblondet als Nancy Wood mit Country-Songs wieder auftauchte. Nur das Glück, von dem sie so oft sang, fand sie nicht. 1991 erhängte sie sich, zerbrochen an sich selbst und den Gesetzen der Branche. Eine Reise durch die 60er bis in die 90er Jahre und den Kosmos einer Musik, die Durchhalten propagiert und Träume erlaubt, ihre Erfüllung aber ins ewige Morgen verlegt. | This film tells the story of pop singer Renate Kern who was 'discovered' at the age of 19 and shot to fame as a new star in the firmament of German popular music in the 60's. As time progressed and her success began to wane, she decided on a change; from now on her repertoire would include chansons, like Edith Piaf. But record companies and her fans weren't having any of it; they wanted her to stay the way she was. In the mid-70's Renate Kern withdrew from the public eye, and, after a great deal of soul-searching was secretly reborn as blond Country singer Nancy Wood. Yet personal happiness still eluded her; on the contrary, mentally broken, but also destroyed by the constraints of her profession, she hung herself in 1991. |
