Eine ironische Geschichte im Stil des Suzhou Pingtan, einer traditionellen südchinesischen Erzählweise. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die leidvollen Erfahrungen von Bao Gun, der nach einem Leben auf dem Land zum ersten Mal in die Großstadt Shanghai kommt. Unvermutet hat er bei einem Wettbewerb den ersten Preis gewonnen: eine Zwei-Zimmer-Wohnung. Als er jedoch in Shanghai den Preis entgegennehmen will, erfährt er, daß er noch eineinhalb Jahre warten muß, bis das Apartmenthaus gebaut ist. Umgeben von seiner durchtriebenen Tante Huang Jin Fang, einem tapferen U-Bahn-Musikanten, der schönen Ah Hui und ihres Freundes Xiao Bai beginnt Bao Gun, sein Leben in der Großstadt in Angriff zu nehmen. Seine Träume und die Möglichkeit ihrer Erfüllung stehen in starkem Kontrast zu den weltoffenen Menschen, die er dabei kennenlernt. Nur seine Beharrlichkeit und seine Moralvorstellungen dienen ihm als Leitfaden auf seinem Weg. “Ich will in meinem Film darstellen, wie Träume Auswege aus dem täglichen Leben sein können und zu einem ‘schöneren’ Ort zu führen vermögen, und wie verschiedene Menschen diese Ziele im Zeitalter des raschen Wandels betrachten und angehen. Der Film handelt von der Zielstrebigkeit in einer Zeit der sich ständig wandelnden gesellschaftlichen Konventionen.”	Beautiful New World is ironically narrated in the style of Suzhou Pingtan, a traditional (and rapidly fading) southern Chinese storytelling method, and follows the story of country boy Bao Gun and his rude introduction to city life in Shanghai. The unwitting winner of a contest with a two bedroom Shanghai apartment as its grand prize, Bao Gun arrives in Shanghai to claim his prize and discovers that he must wait a year and a half for the apartment to be built. Surrounded by a cast of characters including his scheming aunt Huang Jin Fang, the gritty subway musician Ah Liang, the beautiful Ah Hui and her boyfriend Xiao Bai, Bao Gun must make a go at life in the big city. His dreams and their possibility of fulfilment contrast drastically with the more cosmopolitan people he meets in Shanghai. Bao Gun has only his own single-mindedness and simple morality to guide him on his journey. “This story does not try to portray only the simple contrasts between rural and urban Chinese people. Its main goal is the depiction of dreams as a road out of everydaylife to a more ‘beautiful’ place and how different people view and pursue such goals in the face of rapid change. This film is about direction and pursuit in the face of ever-changing societal conventions. I feel that our pursuit of these answers in the creation of this film shows our similarity to the characters that we created. We, like Jin Fang and Bao Gun, also long for a way out and search for our own path to a new and better ‘beautiful’ life. Biofilmographie / Biofilmography Shi Run Jiu wurde am 31. März 1969 geboren. 1992 schloß er seine Studien am Director's Department of the Central Drama Academy in Beijing ab. Im selben Jahr begann er Musikvideos und erste Dokumentarfilmen zu drehen. MEILI XIN SHIJIE ist sein erster Spielfilm. Shi Run Jiu was born on 31st March, 1969. In 1992 he graduated from the Director's department of the Central Drama Academy in Beijing. In the same year he began to make music videos and documentaries. MEILI XIN SHIJE is his first feature-length film.
