Eine Gruppe unerfahrener Einbrecher überfällt ein Juweliergeschäft. Der Überfall mißlingt. Es kommt zu einer Schießerei mit schweren Waffen, so daß die Elitetruppe zur Bekämpfung des organisierten Verbrechens kurzfristig eingreifen muß. In dem folgenden Feuerwechsel können sich die einzelnen Mitglieder der Polizeitruppe, einschließlich des Scharfschützen Lee Sum Sam, nur auf ihren eigenen Mut und ihre Erfahrungen verlassen, um zu überleben. Discarding the forceful manipulation of their previous film, Expect the Unexpected is more complete and coherent than The Longest Nite, concentrating instead on the close-knit warmth of the family of cops and thus bringing out the powerful impact of fatalism. The least threatening outlaws from the Mainland turn out to be the most destructive. The love triangle between Lau Ching-wan, Simon Yam and Yo Yo Mung provides the perfect footnote.
