| Die hoffnungslos romantische 25jährige Imma lebt in einer heruntergekommenen Wohnung in der Altstadt von Genua. Mit ihrer Freundin Teresa teilt sie sich Gelegenheitsjobs, von denen sie kaum ihren Lebensunterhalt bestreiten kann. Privat wie beruflich hat sie ein besonderes Talent, sich in merkwürdige und ausweglose Situationen zu bringen, aus denen sie sich nur mit ihrem angeborenen Sinn für Humor retten kann. Mit einer Komik am Rande des Tragikomischen sprechen Imma und Teresa über sich, ihre unerfreuliche Kindheit und ihre schillernden Träume. Eines Tages strömt Gas aus Immas defektem Boiler, und auf diese Weise lernt sie einen Feuerwehrmann kennen, in den sie sich auf der Stelle und unsterblich verliebt. Als er weg ist, sucht sie ihn in jedem Winkel der Stadt, zuletzt in Sizilien, wo für sie durch puren Zufall eine Art Bildungsreise beginnt. Anna Negri: „Ich beschloß, einen Film zu machen, in dem ich die Stilelemente der italienischen Komödie mit dem Realismus des englischen Kinos verbinden und zugleich meine Lebenserfahrungen in Italien und England verarbeiten wollte. Einen Film, der ein wenig ironisch über die Beziehungen zwischen Männern und Frauen erzählt und zwar aus weiblicher Sicht – etwas äußerst Seltenes in Italien.” . |
Helplessly romantic, 25-year-old Imma lives in a decayed flat in the old part of Genoa. Sharing on-and-off jobs with her bosom friend Teresa she hardly earns a living. Both in work and love, she’s got a knack for putting herself in such odd and hopeless situations that she is only rescued by her innate sense of humour. With a comic element verging on the brink of tragicomedy, Imma and Teresa talk about themselves, their ramshackle and colourful dreams. One day, gas escapes from her faulty boiler, and Imma meets a fireman with whom she immediately and madly falls in love. Once he’s gone, she looks for him in every single spot of the city and finally goes to Sicily. By pure chance, this journey turns into a sort of ‘grand tour’ of initiation similar to those undertaken by wealthy young ladies in former times. Anna Negri: “I decided to make a film in which I wanted to mix style elements of Italian comedy with the realism of English cinema. At the same time I wanted to deal with my experiences in Italy and England. Furthermore, I thought it would be important to make a film which took an ironic point of view of men and women, but from a feminine point of view – a rare occurence in Italy. The result is a hymn to mediterranean sensuality, sometimes sleek, sometimes awkward and always misplaced. This is a film in which dreams and desires are very important. They intervene into the greyness of everyday life and daily tasks. Perhaps this film tells us that love only exists in dreams or in the cinema. But it is also saying that without these things, life would be even worse.“ |

/ Biofilmography Anna Negri wurde am 9. Dezember 1964 in Venedig geboren. Von 1986 bis 1988 studierte sie an der Minerva-Kunstakademie in Groningen (Holland). 1991 schloß sie ein Filmstudium am London College of Printing ab. Ihren Studienabschluß in Film- und Fernsehregie am Royal College of Art in London machte sie 1993. Anna Negri was born on December 9th, 1964 in Venice. From 1986 to 1988 she studied at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen (The Netherlands). In 1991 she graduated in film from the London College of Printing. In 1993 she graduated from the Royal College of Art with a major in film and television direction.
